Engagement Rings
Lucano engagement rings are handcrafted in Australia in our Byron Bay Hinterland atelier, using IGI-certified lab-grown or GIA-certified natural F VS diamonds (GIA from 0.30ct centre) and responsibly sourced gold aligned with RJC standards. Every ring is made to order by Australian goldsmiths in a 4-6 week lead time, backed by a lifetime craftsmanship warranty, with free shipping Australia-wide.
Our designs reflect an Italian goldsmithing heritage: our founder is a member of the Università degli Orefici (est. 1508, Rome), bringing five centuries of tradition to each piece. The collection spans classic solitaires, halo settings, hidden halos, pavé-band designs, and two-stone Toi et Moi rings, across oval, round brilliant, pear, emerald-cut, marquise, radiant, and princess shapes.
How to choose an engagement ring shape
The centre-stone shape is the single biggest aesthetic choice. Here is how the seven shapes in this collection compare:
- Round brilliant: 57 or 58 facets engineered to maximise sparkle. The most timeless choice. See the Helios Round Solitaire or Halo Lumina Round Solitaire.
- Oval: elongates the finger and reads larger than a round of the same carat weight. See the Halo Lumina Oval Solitaire or Mira Oval Pavé Solitaire.
- Pear: a teardrop shape combining round brilliance with marquise grace. See the Goccia Pear Solitaire, Ember Pear Ring, or Halo Lumina Pear Solitaire.
- Emerald-cut: rectangular with stepped facets for a clean, hall-of-mirrors brilliance. Architectural and calm. See the Imperia Emerald Solitaire, Halo Lumina Emerald Solitaire, or Vesper Emerald Hidden Halo Ring.
- Radiant-cut: rectangular like emerald-cut but with brilliant-cut faceting for more sparkle. See the Imperia Radiant Solitaire, Vesper Radiant Hidden Halo Ring, or Aurelia Emerald Halo Ring.
- Marquise: elongated with pointed ends, commissioned originally for King Louis XV. See the Halo Lumina Marquise Solitaire or Mira Marquise Pavé Solitaire.
- Princess: a square shape with brilliant-cut faceting, the second most popular engagement ring cut after the round brilliant. See the Reale Princess Solitaire.
Solitaire, halo, hidden halo, or pavé?
- Solitaire: a single centre diamond on a clean band. The most enduring style. Best for buyers who want the centre stone to be the sole focal point.
- Halo: a ring of smaller pavé diamonds surrounding the centre stone. Adds apparent size and brilliance. Best for buyers who want a more visually generous look.
- Hidden halo: a halo of pavé diamonds tucked beneath the centre stone, only visible from the side. Adds sparkle from the profile without competing from above. Best for buyers who want a cleaner top-down view with a subtle surprise.
- Pavé band: smaller diamonds set along the band itself, rather than around the centre. Adds continuous brilliance along the shank. Best for buyers who want sparkle that runs along the finger.
- Toi et Moi: two centre stones set side by side on a single band, French for "you and me." A historic two-stone design (chosen by Napoleon for Josephine). Best for buyers who want a meaningful alternative to a solitaire.
Lab-grown or natural diamonds?
Every Lucano engagement ring is offered with your choice of IGI-certified lab-grown or GIA-certified natural F VS diamonds (GIA from 0.30ct centre). Both are graded to the same colour and clarity standard.
Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and optically identical to natural diamonds but typically cost 50-70% less for the same size and quality. Natural diamonds carry the resale value and rarity premium of the traditional market. Both options are ethically sourced. The choice is yours.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I spend on an engagement ring in Australia?
Australian engagement ring spend varies widely. The 2026 average is around AU$5,000-7,000, though spend ranges from under AU$2,000 to over AU$20,000 depending on centre carat, diamond origin (lab or natural), and metal. Lucano engagement rings start at AU$1,600 (Baghetta Ring) and span to AU$8,300+ (Blue Sapphire Diamond Ring), with most centre-stone engagement rings in the AU$2,400-4,050 range.
Are Lucano diamonds certified?
Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are IGI-certified. Natural diamonds of 0.30ct or above are GIA-certified. Both are graded to F colour and VS clarity.
How long does a Lucano engagement ring take to make?
Each ring is hand-made to order in our Byron Bay Hinterland atelier by Australian goldsmiths. Lead times typically run 4 to 6 weeks. Free shipping Australia-wide once dispatched.
What metals are available?
9ct or 18ct yellow gold, white gold, or rose gold, as well as platinum. All gold is responsibly sourced and aligned with RJC standards.
What is the warranty?
Every Lucano engagement ring is backed by a lifetime craftsmanship warranty. We cover the workmanship of every ring for life, including periodic inspection and resetting of pavé diamonds where applicable.
Can I customise a Lucano engagement ring?
Yes. Every ring is made to order. Choose your centre carat (0.50, 1.00, or 1.50ct on most designs), diamond origin (IGI lab or GIA natural F VS), metal (six options including platinum), and ring size (5-10). Contact us for fully bespoke designs.
What is the difference between handmade and mass-produced engagement rings?
Handmade engagement rings are individually fabricated by goldsmiths rather than cast in bulk from a master mould. Each Lucano ring is hand-forged, filed, and polished using techniques refined in Italian goldsmithing tradition. The result is a piece with proportions and finish tuned to the specific stone, not a generic casting.
