My Journey

It began in Rome, training as a gemmologist alongside master jewellers in the city's historic workshops. That foundation took me deep into the global diamond and gemstone supply chain — negotiating with producers, auditing ethical standards, learning where true value lives in a complex industry.

Australia

I spent years inside the houses that define fine jewellery craftsmanship.

  • Sourced Argyle pink diamonds directly from Rio Tinto
  • Managed procurement of all raw materials entering the factory
  • Conceptualised, designed, and manufactured the Everest Trophy

I built inventory systems that balanced explosive growth with uncompromising quality control. Moved the supply chain from unknown to ethical.Lucano exists because I saw what was missing.

The Industry Has Two Modes

  • Mass-produced anonymity
  • Inaccessible luxury

Cheap. Forgettable.Expensive. Exclusive.

I wanted to offer something else:

  • The precision of a supply chain specialist
  • The eye of a gemmologist. The personal accountability of a single craftsman.
My Promise

Every piece we create is traceable.

Not because it's marketable. Because I've stood in those factories.

I know the difference between a certificate and a real ethical commitment.

Lucano

A fine jewellery studio based in the Byron Bay hinterland. We specialise in custom design and ethically sourced pieces for everyday elegance.

Our Founder

Member of the Università degli Orefici (est. 1508, Rome). Nearly two decades of international experience, from negotiating raw material contracts to building production software for Australian manufacturers. This isn't background noise.

It's how we deliver exceptional quality at fair prices by understanding exactly where value lives in the supply chain.

What This Means for You

Direct sourcing. We work with certified ethical suppliers we've audited personally. No middlemen, no opacity.

Custom without chaos. Our production systems, built on years of inventory and planning expertise, mean your bespoke piece arrives on time, as promised.

Fair pricing Deep industry knowledge lets us cut inefficiencies, not corners.

Our Story

We started as a consultancy because that's where the hard problems are. Now we bring that same rigour to our online collection and custom work.

Every piece is handmade in our Northern Rivers studio using Australian gold and ethically sourced gemstones.

The hinterland landscape, its tranquillity, its clarity, informs everything we create.

Sourcing: We Know the Origin

The jewellery industry runs on opacity. We don't. Before any gold enters our studio, we've verified its path:

Our Supply Chain

Australian ethical gold refined by ABC RefineryAustralia's only independent LBMA and Shanghai Gold Exchange accredited refiner. Triple-accredited supply chain:

  • LBMA (London Bullion Market Association)
  • SGE (Shanghai Gold Exchange)
  • CME Group COMEX good delivery status

NATA-certified laboratory testing guarantees the purity and composition of every batch. Responsible Jewellery Council standards across our entire supplier network

Our RJC Commitment

Human Rights, No child labour, forced labour, or human rights abuses.

Labour Rights: Fair wages, safe working conditions, worker voice

Environmental Impact: Responsible mining, water/energy management, biodiversity protection

Business Ethics: Anti-corruption, transparency, fair competition

Due Diligence: Supply chain risk assessment and mitigation

  • All suppliers maintain RJC Code of Practices certification
  • Annual third-party audits of our supply chain
  • Full traceability from mine to finished piece
  • Conflict-free and mercury-free gold sourcing

LBMA accreditation is universally regarded as the highest international standard for gold refining.

It's given only to companies meeting stringent assaying, bar quality, and responsible gold requirements.

There are very few independent refiners globally with this certification — only one in Australia.

Your Guarantee

We know exactly which refinery batch your gold came from, when it was tested, and its exact metallurgical composition.

This isn't standard practice.

This is what happens when your founder spent years managing procurement for Argyle pink diamonds and building certified sustainable supply chains for the biggest jewellery business in the country.

The Università degli Orefici Connection

My training didn't happen in a classroom. It happened in a 516-year-old institution.I'm a member of the Università degli Orefici — the University of Goldsmiths — founded in Rome in 1508. This is the same guild that trained masters of the Renaissance, where goldsmithing techniques were codified and preserved across centuries of political upheaval, war, and industrial revolution.

What This Means

Techniques passed down through half a millennium of Italian goldsmithing tradition.

Standards Membership requires demonstration of technical mastery, not just payment of dues.

Accountability. The Università has maintained craft standards for almost five centuries

Why It Matters for Your Piece

The jewellery industry loves "artisan" and "handcrafted" — words that have lost meaning through overuse.

When I say your piece is hand-fabricated, I'm describing a specific methodology:

Designing, Sourcing, and manufacturing using techniques refined in Rome during the Medici era, adapted to modern materials and ethical standards.

This isn't nostalgia. It's quality control you can't fake.
