Ember Marquise Diamond Ring is a marquise-cut diamond engagement ring handcrafted in our Byron Bay Hinterland atelier. A single marquise-cut diamond centre stone held in a six-claw basket setting that lets light flood through from every angle, in your choice of IGI-certified lab-grown or GIA-certified natural F VS diamonds.

Made to order by Australian goldsmiths in 9ct or 18ct yellow, white, or rose gold, as well as platinum 950. Choose your centre carat (0.50, 1.00, or 1.50ct), diamond origin, and ring size (5-10) to begin your bespoke piece.

What is a marquise-cut engagement ring?
A marquise-cut engagement ring features an elongated, boat-shaped diamond with pointed ends. The cut was commissioned by King Louis XV of France in the 18th century, said to resemble the smile of the Marquise de Pompadour. Worn point-to-fingertip, the marquise elongates the finger and reads larger than its actual carat weight.

What is a six-claw basket setting?
A six-claw basket setting holds the diamond with six small prongs forming a basket-like cradle, allowing light to flood through from every angle. It is a classic, secure setting that maximises brilliance and protects the points of a marquise stone.

Can I choose between lab-grown and natural diamonds?
Yes. The Ember Marquise is offered with either IGI-certified lab-grown (E VVS1) or GIA-certified natural (F VS1 or E VS2) diamonds, at 0.50, 1.00, or 1.50ct centre weights.

How long does it take to make?

Are lab grown diamonds as good as natural diamonds?
Lab grown and natural diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical. Every Lucano diamond is F VS graded. The only differences are provenance and price: lab grown diamonds cost less for the same colour and clarity grade, while natural diamonds carry geological rarity.
What does F VS mean in your diamond grading?
F is the colour grade, the highest 'colourless' tier just below D and E. VS means 'Very Slightly Included', where inclusions are visible only under 10x magnification and not to the naked eye. Every Lucano diamond meets or exceeds this standard.
Where is Lucano jewellery made and how are your diamonds sourced?
Every piece is hand-made in our Byron Bay Hinterland studio by Australian goldsmiths. Our founder is a member of St Eligio, Università e Nobil Collegio degli Orefici jewellery association established in Rome in 1508. Gold is sourced from ABC Refinery (Australia's only LBMA/SGE/COMEX-accredited independent refiner), and every diamond is traceable, RJC-certified, and comes with full chain-of-custody documentation.
What's the difference between 9ct, 18ct, and platinum settings?
9ct gold is harder and more affordable. 18ct gold has a richer warmth and higher gold content (75%). Platinum is the densest and most durable; it doesn't tarnish and develops a soft patina over time. Every Lucano setting holds your diamond with the same goldsmithing precision.
How long does a Lucano hand-made piece take?
