The Serpente Chain Petite is a solid 18ct yellow gold Italian-made snake chain. A 2.6mm thick Serpente (snake-link) chain at 46cm length, polished to a high-lustre finish.

Crafted in Italy and hand-finished to Lucano's standards. Our founder is a member of the Università degli Orefici (est. 1508, Rome), bringing five centuries of Italian goldsmithing tradition to each piece. Prefer a heavier, more affordable 9ct version? See the Serpente Chain (9ct, 3.4mm, 41cm). To layer with a matching bracelet, see the Piatto Bracelet.

Why the Serpente Chain Petite

  • Solid 18ct yellow gold: 75% gold content, hallmarked 750. Richer colour than 9ct, suitable for layering with finer pieces.
  • Italian Serpente link: a snake-link design with smooth, tightly-fitted segments that flex like a snake's body and sit flat against the skin.
  • 2.6mm thickness, 46cm length: a balanced everyday-wear chain, suited to layering or wearing solo with pendants.
  • Made in Italy: crafted by Italian goldsmiths, finished and verified by Lucano in Australia.
  • Italian goldsmithing heritage: Lucano's founder is a member of the Università degli Orefici (est. 1508, Rome). Lifetime craftsmanship warranty. Free shipping Australia-wide.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Serpente (snake) chain?
Serpente is the Italian name for a snake chain — a chain style with smooth, tightly-fitted segments that flex like a snake's body. It sits flat against the skin with no visible joins. Snake chains are one of the most popular Italian gold chain styles, prized for their flexibility and clean line.

What is the difference between the Serpente Chain Petite and the (regular) Serpente Chain?
The Petite is 18ct gold, 2.6mm thick, 46cm long. The standard Serpente Chain is 9ct gold, 3.4mm thick, 41cm long — chunkier in appearance, more affordable, with a slightly cooler yellow tone (9ct is less gold-rich than 18ct).

Does it pair with the Piatto Bracelet?
Yes. The 18ct Serpente Chain Petite is designed to match the Piatto Bracelet (same 18ct material, same 2.6mm thickness) for a coordinated necklace-and-bracelet set.

Is the chain solid gold?
Yes. Solid 18ct yellow gold throughout, hallmarked 750. Not plated or filled.

What is the warranty?
Every Lucano piece is backed by a lifetime craftsmanship warranty. Free shipping Australia-wide.

Where is Lucano jewellery made?
Every Lucano piece is hand-made in our Byron Bay Hinterland studio by Australian goldsmiths. Our founder is a member of St Eligio, Università e Nobil Collegio degli Orefici jewellery association established in Rome in 1508, and that lineage informs every angle and finish.
What's the difference between 9ct and 18ct gold?
9ct gold contains 37.5% pure gold; 18ct contains 75%. 18ct has a richer warm colour and higher gold value, while 9ct is harder and more durable for everyday wear. Both are solid gold, not plated, and both are RJC-certified at Lucano.
Where do you source your gold?
We source exclusively from ABC Refinery, Australia's only independent refiner with simultaneous LBMA, SGE, and CME Group COMEX accreditation. Our entire supply chain meets Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) standards for human rights, labour, and environmental practice.
How long does a Lucano piece take to make?
Each piece is hand-made to order. Typical production is 6 to 8 weeks, and you can see your specific timeline directly on each product page.
How do I care for my gold piece?
Store in the original pouch to prevent scratches. Avoid contact with chlorine, perfume, and harsh detergents. Clean gently with warm water and a soft cloth. We offer complimentary polishing as part of our lifetime warranty.
