The Venetian Chain is a solid gold box chain in the Italian Venetian-link style. A 2.2mm box-link chain at 45cm length that sits smoothly against the skin, made to order in solid 9ct or 18ct yellow or white gold.

Handcrafted to order in our Byron Bay Hinterland atelier by Australian goldsmiths, with responsibly sourced gold. Our founder is a member of the Università degli Orefici (est. 1508, Rome), bringing five centuries of Italian goldsmithing tradition to each piece. Looking at related Italian chain styles? Why the Venetian Chain

  • Venetian box link: square box-shaped links joined into a crisp continuous line. A box chain reads clean and architectural, and its symmetrical links make it one of the strongest chain constructions for daily wear.
  • 2.2mm thickness, 45cm length: substantial enough to wear solo, refined enough to carry a pendant.
  • Solid gold, four finishes: 9ct or 18ct, yellow or white gold. Solid gold throughout, not plated or filled.
  • Made to order in Australia: handcrafted by atelier goldsmiths in the Byron Bay Hinterland with responsibly sourced gold.
  • Lifetime craftsmanship warranty: covers the workmanship of every Lucano piece for life. Free shipping Australia-wide.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Venetian (box) chain?
A Venetian chain, also called a box chain, is made of square box-shaped links joined into a smooth continuous line. The style takes its name from the Venetian goldsmithing tradition. Its symmetrical construction makes it one of the most durable chain styles for everyday wear and a reliable base chain for pendants.

Is the chain solid gold?
Yes. Solid 9ct or 18ct gold throughout, not plated or filled.

9ct or 18ct, which should I choose?
9ct gold (37.5% gold) is more affordable and harder-wearing. 18ct gold (75% gold) has a richer, deeper colour. White gold gives a cool silver-grey tone; yellow gold shows the natural gold colour.

How long does it take to make?
Each Venetian Chain is handmade to order in our Byron Bay Hinterland atelier, with lead times that typically run 4 to 8 weeks. Making to order minimises waste and is part of our commitment to sustainability. Free shipping Australia-wide once dispatched, backed by Lucano's lifetime craftsmanship warranty.

Where is Lucano jewellery made?
Every Lucano piece is hand-made in our Byron Bay Hinterland studio by Australian goldsmiths. Our founder is a member of St Eligio, Università e Nobil Collegio degli Orefici jewellery association established in Rome in 1508, and that lineage informs every angle and finish.
What's the difference between 9ct and 18ct gold?
9ct gold contains 37.5% pure gold; 18ct contains 75%. 18ct has a richer warm colour and higher gold value, while 9ct is harder and more durable for everyday wear. Both are solid gold, not plated, and both are RJC-certified at Lucano.
Where do you source your gold?
We source exclusively from ABC Refinery, Australia's only independent refiner with simultaneous LBMA, SGE, and CME Group COMEX accreditation. Our entire supply chain meets Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) standards for human rights, labour, and environmental practice.
How long does a Lucano piece take to make?
Each piece is hand-made to order. Typical production is 4 to 8 weeks, and you can see your specific timeline directly on each product page.
How do I care for my gold piece?
Store in the original pouch to prevent scratches. Avoid contact with chlorine, perfume, and harsh detergents. Clean gently with warm water and a soft cloth. We offer complimentary polishing as part of our lifetime warranty.
