Why the Grumetta Chain

  • Curb-link silhouette: Grumetta is the Italian term for a curb-link chain — flat, interlocking oval links twisted to lie uniform against the skin. One of the most popular men's gold chain styles.
  • 4.0mm thickness, 50cm length: a substantial everyday-wear chain with statement presence. Suitable for layering or solo with a pendant.
  • Choose your gold: 9ct (more affordable, harder-wearing) or 18ct (richer colour, higher gold content).
  • Made in Italy: crafted by Italian goldsmiths, finished and verified by Lucano in Australia.

Frequently asked questions

What is a curb (Grumetta) chain?
A curb chain features flat, interlocking oval links that twist to lie uniformly against the skin. "Grumetta" is the Italian name for this style. Curb chains are one of the most popular gold chain types, valued for their durability and substantial feel.

9ct or 18ct — which should I choose?
9ct gold (37.5% gold) is more affordable and harder-wearing. 18ct gold (75% gold) has a richer, deeper yellow colour and feels heavier in the hand. Both are solid gold, hallmarked, and made in Italy. The 4.0mm thickness of the Grumetta gives it presence in either material.

Is the chain solid gold?
Yes. Solid gold throughout, hallmarked 375 (9ct) or 750 (18ct). Not plated or filled.

How does the Grumetta compare to the Serpente?
The Grumetta is a curb-link chain (flat interlocking ovals) with bolder visible link structure. The Serpente is a snake chain with smooth tightly-fitted segments and no visible joins. Grumetta reads more traditional and masculine; Serpente reads cleaner and more modern.

What is the warranty?

Where is Lucano jewellery made?
Every Lucano piece is hand-made in our Byron Bay Hinterland studio by Australian goldsmiths. Our founder is a member of St Eligio, Università e Nobil Collegio degli Orefici jewellery association established in Rome in 1508, and that lineage informs every angle and finish.
What's the difference between 9ct and 18ct gold?
9ct gold contains 37.5% pure gold; 18ct contains 75%. 18ct has a richer warm colour and higher gold value, while 9ct is harder and more durable for everyday wear. Both are solid gold, not plated, and both are RJC-certified at Lucano.
Where do you source your gold?
We source exclusively from ABC Refinery, Australia's only independent refiner with simultaneous LBMA, SGE, and CME Group COMEX accreditation. Our entire supply chain meets Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) standards for human rights, labour, and environmental practice.
How long does a Lucano piece take to make?
Each piece is hand-made to order. Typical production is 6 to 8 weeks, and you can see your specific timeline directly on each product page.
How do I care for my gold piece?
Store in the original pouch to prevent scratches. Avoid contact with chlorine, perfume, and harsh detergents. Clean gently with warm water and a soft cloth. We offer complimentary polishing as part of our lifetime warranty.
